The district of La Corredoria has been part of the urban district of Oviedo since 2012, and in recent years it has become the most populous urban district in Asturias. The population of the neighbourhood is close to 20,000 inhabitants and the network of public schools has three centres in the early childhood and primary education sector. The action aims to improve the quality and accessibility of secondary and baccalaureate education by completing the education map in the south-eastern part of the neighbourhood. The new IES in La Corredoria involves the construction of sixteen classrooms for ESO and eight for Baccalaureate. The overlapping of several platforms with a sinuous envelope generates a different casuistry of spaces, open, closed, protected from rain or uncovered according to different educational needs. The building includes a function room, gym, multi-purpose classrooms, library and student meeting and recreation areas. The project provides for universal accessibility, and targets are set for ensuring comfort under the premise of an Almost Zero Energy Building (EECN) construction. To this end, it provides a fleet of photovoltaic panels that will provide the building with an energy supply, and whose final balance brings the consumption of electrical energy closer to zero. The building has been designed and will be built on the premise of the VERDE certification mark, issued by the Green Building Council GBC.
