Fisheries Policy
The common fisheries policy serves to manage fisheries resources and ensure the sustainability of the seas
With the common fisheries policy (CFP) the EU manages fisheries resources and ensures their sustainable use. Its main objective is to ensure the sustainability of fisheries, the stability of fishermen's incomes and jobs, while at the same time providing healthy food at reasonable prices.
The rules created from fisheries policy serve to help conserve marine biological resources and to manage and control fisheries within and outside the waters of the European Union. Spain, as a global player in fisheries and aquaculture, has a particular responsibility for the protection of water bodies and for the conservation of marine biological resources, as well as for ensuring the sustainability of aquatic and marine environments.

European funds in support of fisheries policy
The European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA) is the financial instrument supporting the implementation of the CFP in the period 2021-2027. FEMPA contributes to the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector, promoting the modernization of the fishing fleet, generational change, gender equality and innovation, while strengthening the protection of the marine environment, data collection and fisheries control.
FEMPA also provides essential support for the sustainable development of aquaculture and the blue economy, promoting innovative, resilient and low-carbon aquaculture, as well as the diversification of activities in coastal areas and the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants.
