The project 'Construction and equipment of the CIFP Villa de Agüimes' in Gran Canaria, managed by the Directorate-General for Educational Centres and Infrastructure of the Canary Islands Government, has consisted of the construction of new facilities, distributed over two floors covering 2,532.58 square metres.
The architectural project has sought to maximize the usefulness and use of the facilities, offering more services to students, teachers and parents, as well as improving safety. For the latter, the passage of vehicles has been separated from the pedestrian zone, in order to avoid any danger and to allow direct access from the main entrance to the gardens and to the various educational modules.
All classrooms and the administration area are equipped with telecommunications and accessibility services, which make it possible for persons with reduced mobility and communication to access and transit through the facilities, in accordance with the specific regulations. The building also has a lift and walkways connecting to the old building, allowing transit through the old area.
This initiative offers the centre more opportunities to promote technological and environmental innovation, improve the skills of students, broaden the teaching experience of teachers, promote a high-quality educational project and meet the demand for training and qualified professionals in the south-east of Gran Canaria.
The results obtained with this cofinancing respond to the objectives set, since investment in studies relating to emerging jobs, such as information technology and communications, hospitality and tourism, as well as helping to alleviate unemployment in a very depressed area in which the teaching centre is located, expand the training options for young people in the area, allowing them to opt for professions that require more qualification.
