The Urban Agglomeration of Granada is one of the areas in Spain with the greatest problems with air pollution, mainly as a result of road traffic, which in turn is the result of the intense mobility that characterises the area, the result of the multiple flows between municipalities resulting from its character as a functional urban unit.

The coexistence of various land uses in the territory determines the patterns of general mobility and, in particular, forced mobility (through work, study, etc. ), in such a way that the evolution of the territorial model during the last decades is characterized by an extensive growth of residential areas towards the periphery of the capital.

The main objective of the intervention is to contribute to the decarbonisation of the economy and to reduce the high emissions of greenhouse gases in the Urban Agglomeration of Granada, caused largely by the amount of road traffic present in the area.

It also sought to establish a sustainable mobility model that would facilitate intra- and inter-municipal mobility, as well as mobility in non-motorized environments, as well as mitigation of the effects of climate change.

In this regard, the action has managed to establish a network that integrates and connects the bicycle lanes of various municipalities, which will promote the reduction of the use of motor vehicles and accessibility to urban hulls.

In this way, progress has been made towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility model, placing people at the centre of planning, considering both accessibility and road safety.
