The action has consisted in turning the previously existing bridge (which is road-like, more typical of a road than of an urban street) into a single platform bridge for priority pedestrian use, allowing the pacification of road traffic and a more friendly connection between the neighbourhoods of Trinitat Vella and Trinitat Nova, incorporating concepts and criteria of sustainability. In addition, it allows the connection of the urban green spaces of the two neighbourhoods and at the same time the connection with the Sierra de Collserola Natural Park.
The objective of the Operation was to carry out the necessary actions for the implementation of a model of sustainable mobility (healthy and low carbon) in the field, prioritizing the quality of urban life and collective well-being, and promoting the creation of a comfortable public space that favors citizen coexistence in the urban environment.
During the development of the project, sustainable construction elements (such as sound-absorbing pavement, low-energy lighting and energy efficiency) and a vegetation wall have been implemented, which improves the quality of the urban landscape and is integrated into all the urban reorganization activities carried out in the neighbourhood.
The reform and improvement of the Sarajevo Bridge makes it a space for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, emphasising the inverted priority and the single platform and resolving the link between pedestrians and vehicles. At the same time, the creation of a green screen helps its absorption, since the space is provided with verdant areas with vegetation, changing the image of the bridge to transform it into one of the gates of Barcelona and a continuation of the green corridors of the Collserola Natural Park.
The Bridge has involved the implementation of integrated urbanisation measures that have reduced traffic, promoted sustainable mobility and the recovery of public space for people. It is currently contributing to the modal shift towards more sustainable modes of transport by implementing new containment and restriction measures in the use of the car, replacing parking spaces and roads with pedestrian areas, trees and urban furniture, thus contributing to the improvement of urban space on a human scale and making the Besós Axis a new space of environmental and heritage quality, increasing its resilience to climate change".

The reform has led to the realisation of a new concept of urbanisation, which transforms a typical bridge structure with road traffic (road platform with sidewalks) into a living space for neighbours in the area, a suspended square.
