Approximately one third of the total area of the City is LIC-ZEPA. However, there is room for substantial improvement in terms of the very conservation of species and spaces and the necessary reduction of pollution in them. The strategic location of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, on the African side of the Strait of Gibraltar, at the confluence of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and linked to its peculiar geomorphology, climatic characteristics and nature, have determined the existence of natural areas whose values have made them worthy of protection and which form part of the Natura 2000 Network as Sites of Community Interest (SCIs) and as Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPAs).
