SECURUS2

The SECURUS 2 project establishes close cooperation between the cross-border crossings of Bielsa-Aragnouet and the Portalet Area, since both cases suffer a very similar impact of natural hazards in high-mountain road environments (1,821 m in the Bielsa-Aragnouet tunnel and 1,792 m in the port of Portalet) especially in winter. Among the achievements made, the following stand out: Adaptation of the avalanche slopes on roads RD173 and A138 for access to the Bielsa-Aragnouet tunnel, with retaining barriers for the snowy cloak and dams. Study and analysis of Mont Peak landings on the Ayguesseau Bridge (Saint Lary Soulan). Construction and completion of the new Ayguesseau road bridge, with the capacity to resist seismic movements and to absorb the annual landslide at the foot of the Mont peak. Installation of an LDC (Advanced Medical Post) at the northern French entrance to the Bielsa-Aragnouet tunnel. Integration of winter road equipment and supplementary machinery in the cross-border crossing of the Portalet, with the use of a loader to support Spanish and French winter road equipment. The actions undertaken protect 722,861 persons annually, according to the number of cars passing annually through the Bielsa-Aragnuet and Portalet border crossings.
