European Maritime, Fisheries and Agriculture Fund
The European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (ESAF) is the new fund intended to direct funding from the EU budget to support for the common fisheries policy (CFP), the Union's maritime policy and the Union's international commitments in the area of ocean governance.
For the period 2021-2027, Community legislation provides that ESAF support must be set up on the basis of four priorities, which are then developed in a number of specific objectives (EO).

Priority 1 Promoting sustainable fisheries and the recovery and conservation of aquatic biological resources

Priority 2 Promoting sustainable aquaculture activities, as well as the processing and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products, thereby contributing to food security in the Union

Priority 3 Enabling a sustainable blue economy in coastal, island and inland areas and promoting the development of fishing and aquaculture communities

Priority 4 Strengthening international governance of the oceans and enabling the seas and oceans to be safe, protected, clean and sustainably managed
The ESF distributes its resources both in direct and indirect management (where the European Commission administers work programmes) and in shared management through co-financed national programmes.
In Spain, the ESF is organised through a single national programme with a total EU aid allocation of €1.120 M which is shared among the four defined priorities.
