Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund

The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) aims to contribute to the effective management of migration flows along with the implementation, strengthening and development of the common asylum policy and the common immigration policy.

The AMIF also helps to strengthen and develop the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), including its external dimension; to strengthen and develop legal migration to Member States according to their economic and social needs; and to promote and contribute to the effective integration and social inclusion of third-country nationals.

In addition, it contributes to the fight against irregular migration, improving effective, safe and dignified return and readmission and effective initial reintegration in third countries. It also enhances solidarity and the equitable sharing of responsibility between the Member States, particularly with regard to those most affected by migration and asylum challenges, including through practical cooperation.

In Spain, the FAMI management authority is the European Management and Funds Sub-Directorate-General of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. In addition, the Sub-Directorate-General for Planning and Management of Infrastructure and Means for Security of the Ministry of the Interior acts as an intermediary agency for the implementation of projects related to the objectives of asylum and return procedures.”

Objectives

For the period 2021-2027, Community legislation establishes four specific objectives (OE) for the FAMI.

  1. OE1 Asylum

To strengthen and develop all aspects of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), including its external dimension.

  2. OE2 Integration

Support legal migration to Member States, in accordance with their economic and social needs, and promote and contribute to the effective integration and social inclusion of third-country nationals.

  3. OE3 Return

Contribute to the fight against irregular migration, improving effective, safe and dignified return and readmission, as well as contributing to and promoting effective initial reintegration in third countries.

  4. OE4 Solidarity

To enhance solidarity and the equitable sharing of responsibility between Member States, in particular those most affected by migration and asylum challenges, including through practical cooperation.

The financial support provided by the AMIF from the Union budget is managed jointly by the European Commission and the Member States through programmes of the Member States, as well as through a thematic mechanism to address priorities that have high added value for the EU or respond to urgent needs – the allocation of which may be managed under shared management, directly or indirectly.
