It is located in the municipality of Coaña, on a plot on the left bank of the Ría de Navia, between the towns of As Junqueiras to the south and Foxos to the north. It is located at the top of the cliff to the north-west of the water reservoir that forms behind the dam of the estuary canal, some 600 metres from the mouth. It is a work included in the Principality of Asturias Master Plan for Sanitation and is designed to deal with discharges from the Navia and Coaña councils.

It also includes the electromechanical equipment of the existing pumps that make up the system and the electricity supply to them, as well as to WWTP. The construction of the WWTP has contributed to the resolution of an existing problem, improving the quality of the waters after the corresponding treatment of the water and its subsequent discharge, alleviating the negative effects suffered in the Navia estuary. The treatment plant is designed to serve a population of about 17,000 inhabitants. The centres that will be served by this system of sanitation and purification are: Navia, Coaña, Folgueras, Jarrio, Mohías, El Espín, Ortiguera and La Colorada.
